Sakana AI, a Tokyo-based R&D company, led by David Ha, Llion Jones, and Ren Ito, has announced a strategic partnership with Google, following its Series B funding.
Google is making a financial investment in Sakana AI, deepening its partnership and signaling confidence in Sakana’s technical capabilities and mission to advance AI in Japan.
The collaboration will focus on improving AI product quality and deploying reliable AI systems in mission-critical industrial and scientific applications.
A core focus of the partnership is accelerating frontier AI innovation. Sakana plans to leverage Google’s latest models, including Gemini and Gemma, to power its research initiatives such as The AI Scientist and ALE-Agent, pushing the boundaries of automated research, reasoning systems, and next-generation AI agents. In parallel, Sakana will provide product feedback and technical insights to help Google improve AI quality and reliability across its ecosystem.
The partnership also targets mission-critical industry deployment. Sakana and Google will collaborate on delivering reliable, secure AI solutions for highly regulated sectors such as finance and government, where data sovereignty, security, and robustness are essential. By combining Google’s infrastructure scale with Sakana’s research capabilities and deep ties to Japan’s AI ecosystem, the partnership aims to accelerate enterprise adoption of trustworthy AI systems at scale.
