Pixel-Flo, reinventing MicroLED production with continuous-Flo™, led by Rick Smith, Suneal Ghataora, Simon Jones, and Sanger Hsu, has raised £5.25 million in seed funding led by Northern Gritstone, with additional investment from SCVC, the Parkwalk Northern Universities Venture Fund, and German investment firm HTGF.
Pixel-Flo is developing a scalable manufacturing technology designed to reduce the cost of MicroLED display production. Its proprietary fluidic self-assembly process addresses the scalability limitations of conventional mechanical mass transfer methods, enabling higher-throughput and more cost-efficient manufacturing.
By lowering production costs while preserving the performance advantages of MicroLED technology, including higher brightness and greater energy efficiency, Pixel-Flo aims to accelerate the adoption of MicroLED displays across products ranging from smartwatches to televisions.
Founded by Dr. Rick Smith, Dr. Suneal Ghataora, and Simon Jones, Pixel-Flo is commercializing semiconductor photonics research from the University of Sheffield alongside deep display industry expertise. The oversubscribed funding round will support the company's transition from laboratory development to industrial scale-up, including team expansion and new laboratory facilities.
Pixel-Flo is also advancing its international growth strategy with the appointment of Taiwan-based Business Development Vice President Sanger Hsu to strengthen customer engagement in the global display market.
Rick Smith said the funding will support team expansion, commercial validation of the company's MicroLED manufacturing technology, and collaboration with display manufacturers as Pixel-Flo pursues international growth opportunities.
Duncan Johnson said Pixel-Flo combines world-class research with a clear path to commercialization, highlighting the company's scalable, lower-cost MicroLED manufacturing technology as a breakthrough that could accelerate mass-market adoption of MicroLED displays.
John Williams said Pixel-Flo stands out by addressing a key manufacturing bottleneck limiting MicroLED adoption, highlighting the company's scalable solution and the strong investor syndicate backing its commercial growth.
Anne Umbach said Pixel-Flo is addressing a critical scaling challenge in the MicroLED industry, highlighting the team's ability to commercialize a key technology for next-generation display manufacturing.
