Odin Space, securing the future of space by developing advanced space debris detection and orbital mapping, led by James New and Dan Terrett, has secured $3 million led by Steel Atlas, with participation from Iron Prairie, Tiny VC, and Cur8 Capital, and several other funds/angels.
The funding will accelerate Odin’s mission to enhance space safety by enabling spacecraft operators, manufacturers, and space agencies to more accurately predict and monitor hazardous sub-centimeter orbital debris. The funding will accelerate Odin’s mission to enhance space safety by enabling spacecraft operators, manufacturers, and space agencies to more accurately predict and monitor hazardous sub-centimeter orbital debris.
As the number of active spacecraft grows and orbital traffic becomes increasingly complex, the need for precise on-orbit data about the smallest debris fragments has become critical, with these fragments now recognized as a leading cause of unexplained anomalies and mission failures.
Founded in 2020, Odin addresses the urgent threat of lethal, non-trackable space debris. The company’s proprietary Nano Sensor™ technology functions as a ‘Black Box’ for spacecraft, detecting fragments as small as 0.1 mm, allowing rapid identification of collision impacts in orbit and enabling collision-specific insurance, a first in the industry.
This investment supports the launch of commercial-grade Nano Sensors and the expansion of data services, ensuring long-term safety and sustainability in space. Plans include team growth, sensor deployment, and scaling of services for both commercial and government clients.
Talal Attieh, GP at Steel Atlas, stated, “Odin’s Seed round addresses the largest challenge to the space economy: untrackable orbital debris. Odin is the only company with proprietary Nano Sensor technology capable of solving this problem. The technology not only enhances space safety but also opens a significant, underserved market for satellite insurance by transforming collision risk into a measurable, insurable asset. It enables collision-only policies up to 100× cheaper than all-risk premiums, positioning Odin as foundational to the next decade of space infrastructure.”
