Numeral, an AI-powered platform to stay compliant with US sales tax and global VAT, led by Sam Ross and Matt DuVall, has raised a $100 million Series C led by Insight Partners, with participation from Salesforce Ventures, Geodesic, Benchmark, Mayfield, FCVC, Y Combinator and Uncork.

Numeral will use the funding to accelerate product development, expand into industries including software, manufacturing, distribution, and wholesale, and grow its engineering, sales, marketing, and product teams.

Sales tax rules continue to evolve as business models and purchasing patterns change. California, for example, recently enacted legislation extending sales and use tax to prewritten software, including SaaS and remotely accessed software, beginning in 2027. For companies operating across multiple jurisdictions, such changes create an ongoing need to monitor tax obligations and update systems.

“Sales tax has become a much bigger operational challenge as companies grow across markets, systems and business models,” said Sam Ross, co-founder and CEO of Numeral. “Businesses need infrastructure that can keep pace as rules and requirements change across jurisdictions, without adding more manual work for their teams. We’re building Numeral to provide that foundation, backed by tax expertise and service that customers can rely on.”

The investment comes amid strong momentum for Numeral, including a 327% year-over-year increase in transaction volume. The company expects its tax engine to process more than 80 million transactions.

Growth is also expanding across software, distribution, and manufacturing, with a significant increase in customers across these sectors as businesses navigate increasingly complex tax requirements.

“Sales tax is mission-critical to get right, and the complexity is only growing as regulations expand into new products and markets,” said Rebecca Liu-Doyle, Managing Director at Insight Partners. “We tracked this space closely and saw Numeral consistently deliver — customers repeatedly pointed to the company’s reliability, accuracy, and high level of service. With AI enabling the team to bring sophisticated tax and compliance infrastructure within reach of businesses that previously lacked access, Numeral has a strong foundation for continued growth, and we’re excited to back them through this next stage.”

Numeral supports the full sales tax compliance lifecycle, from nexus monitoring and registration to tax calculation, filing, remittance, and exemption certificate management. The platform also supports VAT and GST compliance across more than 90 countries and integrates with over 40 billing, financial, and ERP systems.

According to Numeral, customers can reduce time spent on tax filings and registrations by up to 80% and manual spreadsheet work and filing errors by up to 95%. Its exemption certificate management can save up to 400 hours annually, while audits of existing certificates often identify 30%–40% that fail validation.

“Our customers want to know that their tax obligations are being handled accurately while still having access to a person when a complex issue comes up,” said Ross. “That expectation shapes how we build the platform and how we support each customer. As Numeral moves into additional industries and serves larger businesses, we’ll continue investing in both the technology and the tax expertise behind it.”

Numeral is expanding its accounting-firm partnerships through a new partner program that allows firms to refer clients, resell the platform, deliver services using Numeral, or advise clients during implementation. Partners also receive dedicated support and benefits tied to engagement and growth.

The platform combines a deterministic tax engine with AI and automation for high-volume compliance, backed by in-house specialists for complex requirements. This model allows Numeral to serve businesses directly while working alongside their existing accounting firms and advisors.

“Tax compliance has traditionally forced businesses to choose between expensive manual work and software that still leaves them carrying the operational burden,” said Arvind Ayyala, Partner at Geodesic Capital. “Numeral is changing that model by combining deep tax expertise with AI-native infrastructure to deliver tax compliance as an outcome. We are excited to support Sam, Matt, and the team as they build a category-defining business.”

Founded in 2023 by Ross and CTO Matt DuVall, Numeral previously raised a $35 million Series B in September 2025. Its existing investors include Benchmark, Uncork Capital, Y Combinator, Mantis, FCVC, and Mayfield.
