Basecamp Research Raises $140M to Advance AI-Designed Therapeutics

Basecamp Research, training frontier AI models for therapeutic design, led by Glen Gowers, PhD, Oliver Vince, PhD, and the team, has announced a $140M Series C financing to train a new generation of EDEN models and advance a pipeline of AI-designed therapeutics towards clinical development. The oversubscribed round was led by S32, with participation from Menlo Ventures' Anthology Fund, Catalio Capital Management, European Tech Collective, Firebrand River Capital, Inception Fund, King Philanthropies, NATO Innovation Fund, NVIDIA, PostScriptum, Redalpine, The Rockefeller Foundation, Singular, Sovereign AI and True Ventures.

Basecamp aims to develop treatments for currently incurable diseases by designing medicines that reprogram cells to repair themselves. The company combines AI models trained on proprietary biological data with technologies for writing DNA sequences directly into cells.

Additional investment comes from senior leaders from across pharma, biotech, and global industry, including André Hoffmann, Vice-Chairman of Roche, who said: "The biotechnology revolution that began fifty years ago transformed how we make medicines. Applying EDEN to Develop New Therapies.

Basecamp Research is applying EDEN, its biological foundation model, to in vivo cell therapy, with the goal of reprogramming cells directly inside the body. Current cell therapies are constrained by the complexity of what they can deliver and manufacturing costs that can reach hundreds of thousands of dollars per patient.

By combining EDEN’s ability to design complex DNA sequences with large serine recombinases that can precisely integrate them into the genome, Basecamp aims to develop more sophisticated, customizable, and accessible cell therapies for cancer, autoimmune disease, and other conditions.

The company has reported preclinical results across multiple modalities and disease areas and has appointed former Biogen executive Richard Pearce as Chief Business Officer to expand pharmaceutical partnerships.

The AI and Data Powering Basecamp Research’s Therapies.

Basecamp Research’s AI platform is built around the Trillion Gene Atlas, a proprietary biological dataset developed with partners including NVIDIA, Anthropic, PacBio, and Ultima Genomics. The Atlas draws on biological data collected through access and benefit-sharing partnerships across more than 30 countries and all seven continents.

The data powers EDEN, Basecamp’s biological foundation models, which are designed to identify patterns across previously unseen biology and develop a broader understanding of how DNA functions across life.

EDEN can generate potential therapeutic candidates from disease information, with applications spanning cell and gene therapies, enzymes, and peptides. Its capabilities have also been demonstrated through Basecamp’s collaboration with Anthropic on Claude Science.
