Ellis, the AI-native operations platform for private credit, led by Ryan Williams, has launched today with more than $10 million in seed funding closed. First Round Capital led the financing with participation from a group of prominent operators and investors, including Kearny Jackson, 645 Ventures, Harlem Capital, Khosla Ventures, Slow Ventures, Wilshire Lane, Westbound, Collide Capital, Gallery Ventures, Ariel Alternatives CEO Mellody Hobson, Thrive Capital Founder Josh Kushner, Mercury Founder and CEO Immad Akhund, among others.

Private credit has grown into a multi-trillion-dollar market, but much of its operating infrastructure remains fragmented. Many managers still rely on disconnected systems, spreadsheets and manual processes, creating inefficiencies, increasing risk and slowing reporting and scaling.

Ellis addresses this challenge by creating a reconciled, source-verifiable operating layer for private credit firms. Its AI-powered platform helps automate workflows across reconciliation, reporting, portfolio monitoring and compliance, while keeping human teams in control with explainable and traceable outputs.

The platform is already helping private credit managers improve margins, strengthen investor relations and operate faster as they scale.

Ellis was founded by Ryan Williams, the former founder of Cadre, a technology-enabled institutional alternatives platform that facilitated approximately $6 billion in transaction value. While building Cadre, Williams saw firsthand how fragmented data, manual processes, and disconnected systems limited innovation across private markets.

Ryan Williams, Founder and CEO of Ellis, said:

"Ellis is the company I wished existed while building Cadre. Private markets innovation was often held back by fragmented data, disconnected systems, and teams spending too much time validating information. Ellis is building the trusted operating foundation that enables more managers to operate with institutional-grade capabilities, scale efficiently and compete globally."

Ellis is building its platform alongside private credit design partners and a broader network representing more than $50 billion in assets under management. The team includes Chief Product Officer Jason Liao, a former product and technology leader at WeWork and Wonder, who is working with Williams to develop an AI-native platform in collaboration with fund partners such as Treville Capital Group.

Ali Hamed, Founder and Partner at Treville Capital Group, said:

"Closing our books traditionally required analysts to manually reconcile fund administrator data with internal spreadsheets. With continuous, automated reconciliation, we can access a real-time view of the portfolio instead of relying on outdated snapshots. This level of insight is something we have never had before."

Ellis’s investors see a major opportunity to modernize a critical but overlooked layer of private-market infrastructure.

Josh Kopelman, Co-founder and Partner at First Round Capital, said:

"Most fintech innovation over the past decade has focused on the front office, while the operational infrastructure behind it has remained largely unchanged. Ryan experienced this challenge firsthand at Cadre, and the team’s product and technical expertise positions Ellis to build a category-defining solution."

Following the announcement, Ellis will use the funding to expand its team and enhance platform capabilities across reconciliation, LP reporting, SBIC compliance, document intelligence and other key private credit workflows.

While private credit is the company’s starting point, Ellis plans to extend its AI-native operating foundation across the broader alternatives ecosystem, enabling faster, more intelligent and trusted capital flows.
