Causa Prima Raises $20 Million to Tackle Billing Disputes with AI Agents

Causa Prima, the agent-to-agent platform for enterprise finance, led by Maex Ament, Henrik Gebbing, and Philip Stanislaus, has raised a $20 million seed round that closed in September to expand its agent-to-agent platform, led by Base10 Partners, with participation from QED Investors, FJ Labs, and existing investors Creandum, Kfund, and Borusan Ventures. The company previously raised $10 million in a pre-seed round, bringing its total funding to $30 million.
“The status quo today is that a lot of things are still somewhat manual,” Ament told Fortune. “What we need is a network of agents, and … the area that felt natural to us was … accounts payable of one company and accounts receivable of another.”
“Every dollar going into [accounts payable and accounts receivable] automation today assumes the bottleneck sits inside one company. Causa Prima is building for the handoff between companies,” Base10 general partner Rexhi Dollaku told Fortune in a written statement.
Causa Prima employs 25 people across Madrid and Munich and plans to open a New York office to expand into the U.S. Its AI agents target the $98 trillion global B2B payments market by accelerating invoice approvals and negotiating early payments between buyers and suppliers. The company earns a fee on each successfully negotiated early payment.
Friends to Founders.
Causa Prima’s founders bring experience across enterprise software, fintech, blockchain, and consulting. Ament previously founded Taulia, a supply-chain finance company, and Centrifuge, a decentralized finance platform, while Gebbing co-founded Finoa after working at McKinsey.
The two met in Madrid nearly a decade ago while pitching earlier startups. Their friendship became a business partnership last year, alongside CTO Stanislaus, formerly an engineering lead at Centrifuge. The trio founded Causa Prima after identifying how human-dependent workflows were slowing enterprise AI agents, with a focus on accelerating business payments.
