Xampla, a materials innovation company unlocking the power of natural plant polymers, led by Alexandra French, Dan Hawksley PhD, Marc Rodríguez Garcia, Amelia (Amy) Charbonneau, Katrina Curl, and others, has announced $14 million in private capital to accelerate Xampla’s mission to replace single-use plastics with alternatives made from plants from Emerald Technology Ventures with participation from BGF, one of the largest growth capital investors in the UK and Ireland, and Munich-based Matterwave Ventures, along with follow-on investment from existing investors including Amadeus Capital Partners and Horizons Ventures.

Over the next five years, Xampla’s Morro™ materials aim to replace over ten billion single-use plastics, including linings in takeaway boxes, coffee cups, and sachets. Made from regenerative plant proteins, Morro offers a world-first, plastic-free, biodegradable, and home-compostable alternative at a time when global plastic waste continues to rise.

Xampla, through partnerships with companies like 2M Group, Huhtamaki, and Transcend Packaging, has already replaced plastic coatings in food delivery packaging. Its Morro™ Coating preserves cardboard recyclability while providing strong barrier protection, and its soluble Morro™ films offer sustainable, food-safe alternatives to plastic PVA films in products like dishwasher tablets, laundry pods, and even edible single-serve packaging.
