Sila, powering the world’s transition to clean energy by developing next-gen materials for batteries, led by Gene Berdichevsky, Gleb Yushin, Abbey Omokhodion, Alex Jacobs, Michelle Chang, and others, has opened its first new automotive-scale silicon anode plant in Moses Lake, Washington.

The team has started testing and refining process recipes, and the plant will soon produce initial batches of Titan Silicon™, Sila’s breakthrough Si/C silicon anode material for applications in electric mobility, consumer electronics, drones, AR/VR, and satellites.

Sila Moses Lake represents a milestone for U.S. energy independence. The 160-acre, 600,000+ square-foot plant, over a million times larger than Sila’s first R&D line, was built for scale, initially supporting 2–5 GWh of capacity with potential to expand to 250 GWh within five years, becoming the world’s largest anode production facility. By manufacturing domestically, Sila replaces graphite, primarily sourced from China, with a higher-performing American-made alternative. The Titan Silicon anode, backed by a decade of research, delivers exceptional energy density, twice the charging speed, and the flexibility to meet the performance needs of any battery-powered application.

Domestic anode production remains limited despite a surge in new battery assembly plants. Sila Moses Lake addresses this gap, providing U.S.-made, high-performance anodes powered by clean hydropower from the Columbia River. The company is also investing in the local community, partnering with regional colleges and vocational programs to hire and train up to 500 skilled employees over the next three to five years.

Safety, environmental responsibility, and automotive-grade quality are embedded at every stage of production at Moses Lake. Rigorous safety and environmental systems guided the plant’s design and construction, while process safety controls are integrated into each tool. Automotive-quality systems ensure consistent, high-quality Titan Silicon™ for customers across industries.

Over a decade ago, Sila pioneered the modern silicon anode, sparking the biggest shift in battery technology since lithium-ion. With Moses Lake now operational, Sila is showcasing global leadership in innovation and large-scale manufacturing, strengthening the domestic battery supply chain, replacing critical imported minerals like graphite, and reducing U.S. reliance on foreign sources.
