Quantum Space, a space technology company serving defense and commercial missions, led by Dr. Kam Ghaffarian, Kerry Wisnosky, Ben Reed, Phillip Bracken, Sue Hall, and Richard Matlock, has acquired Phase Four’s multi-mode propulsion assets, a breakthrough technology that allows a single system to operate in both chemical (high thrust) and electric (high efficiency) modes.
The acquisition, which adds a state-of-the-art integration and test facility in Los Angeles, boosts Quantum Space’s ability to deliver highly maneuverable, persistent, and cost-efficient platforms for national security, civil, and commercial missions spanning LEO, GEO, and cislunar space.
Phase Four’s multi-mode capability enhances Ranger’s maneuverability, enabling responsive missions, efficient station-keeping, simplified refueling with a single propellant, and extended orbital presence, key for defense, science, and commercial operations. The newly acquired Los Angeles facility, minutes from Space Systems Command, features high-bay integration, advanced test chambers, machine shops, a clean room, and a mission lab, accelerating development and expansion of Quantum Space’s propulsion technologies and Ranger fleet.
Quantum Space’s enhanced Ranger capabilities and new Los Angeles facility strengthen its ability to deliver resilient, next-generation space services, supporting defense readiness, critical civil science, and commercial missions, while enabling persistent orbital presence and rapid response to emerging threats.
