Orbital Marine Power, the future of clean, predictable power solutions, led by Andrew Scott, Chris Milne, and Oliver Wragg, has secured £7 million in investment. PXN Ventures – the combined VC arm of Praetura Ventures and Par Equity- joined existing shareholders, including Scottish Enterprise, to invest in Orbital.

The investment follows strong momentum in Canada, where Nova Scotia recently awarded Orbital and Eauclaire Tidal Ltd major new tidal energy licenses through its 2025 procurement round.

Orbital develops tidal power technology along the UK coastline, from Orkney to the Isle of Wight, using domestically sourced materials and manufacturing. Its systems are built to operate in the toughest marine environments, delivering reliable, weather-independent renewable power from tidal streams and ocean currents.

Andrew Scott, CEO of Orbital Marine Power, said the investment marks a major new phase for the company and welcomed PXN Ventures as a partner aligned with its clean-energy mission. He also acknowledged the continued support of Scottish Enterprise, which helped enable the new partnership.

Orbital is now set to double its turbine orderbook, having secured UK government CfDs for 14.4MW, six turbines, at the EMEC site. These will join its existing O2 turbines off Orkney, together able to power 18,000 homes with highly predictable, round-the-clock renewable energy.

The expanded pipeline represents a significant industrial opportunity for the UK. Orbital plans to build roughly £200 million of equipment, with around 70% of the supply chain based domestically, creating skilled, long-term jobs and strengthening the UK's position as a leader in secure, renewable power.

With strong momentum, particularly in Scotland, the UK is increasingly positioned to become a global centre of excellence in tidal energy alongside its established offshore wind sector.

Alastair Moore, Investment Director at PXN Ventures, said this is a pivotal moment to join Orbital Marine Power, calling the company a leading example of Scotland’s world-class innovation. He noted that as electricity demand rises, Orbital is positioned to provide reliable baseload tidal power at home and internationally, and that the new investment will help accelerate delivery.

Derek Shaw, Director of Entrepreneurship and Investment at Scottish Enterprise, said tidal energy remains one of Scotland’s most promising opportunities, with Orbital at the forefront through its advanced technology. He added that Scottish Enterprise is proud to continue backing the company and welcomed PXN Ventures as a long-standing co-investment partner, emphasizing that supporting such innovation strengthens Scotland’s economic opportunity in tidal energy and advances its broader energy transition.
