OpenMeter, a usage-based billing platform, led by Peter Marton, Andras Toth, and Andras Hajgato, has joined Kong, a unified API platform led by Augusto Marietti, Marco Palladino, Juliette Rizkallah, and others, to accelerate investment in AI monetization and flexible billing, while continuing to serve all existing and new customers on OpenMeter Cloud.
Kong’s unified API platform, Kong Konnect, enables secure, governed connectivity across clouds and Kubernetes. With OpenMeter, organizations can now productize and bill APIs, AI, and data streams, unlocking new revenue streams.
APIs and billing belong together. By joining Kong, metering, entitlements, and billing move directly to the API and AI layer—giving teams an out-of-the-box gateway, authentication, observability, and billing to launch faster.
OpenMeter has always been built as a true open-source project under Apache 2.0, aligned with Kong’s philosophy of open innovation. Designed with the Linux principle of loosely coupled, tightly integrated building blocks, OpenMeter brings metering, entitlements, and billing that complement Kong Konnect’s modular approach. Together, the upcoming Konnect metering & billing product will support APIs, AI workloads, and any usage-based billing model.
