K2 Space, an LA-based space technology company led by Karan Kunjur, Neel Kunjur, and others, has secured $15 million from NewSpace Capital to accelerate the development of multi-orbit-capable sats for commercial and defense missions.

The partnership positions K2 to expand its reach to commercial and government customers across Europe, amid rising demand for satellites with greater maneuverability and resilience.

K2 has raised $195 million, before even flying an orbital mission, with its first customer launch, Gravitas, slated for next year. The company has scaled production with a new 180,000 sq. ft. California facility capable of building 100 Mega Class satellites annually. Designed to withstand extreme radiation in higher orbits, each satellite bus is priced at $15M and features a 20 kW Hall-effect thruster, enabling 1-ton payloads to move from LEO to MEO in under 90 days.

The platform enables operators to launch satellites on cost-effective LEO rideshare missions and then raise them to MEO, using only about 35% of onboard fuel for the transfer. With its investment, NewSpace Capital is betting on K2 to deliver on its first flight next year and quickly convert funding into revenue.
