Source.ag, the Amsterdam-based developer of AI software for Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA), led by Rien Kamman, Ernst van Bruggen, Magnus Hilding, Joris van der Els, and Eva Laumans, has raised $17.5 million led by Astanor, with strategic participation from investors including seed breeder Enza Zaden and grower cooperative Harvest House, bringing the total funding to over $60 million in five years.

The investment follows rapid expansion, with the company deploying its AI cultivation platform alongside strategic partners across Europe and North America. It highlights the rising importance of applied AI in agriculture, addressing two urgent challenges: surging global demand for fresh produce and a widening shortage of experienced growers.

While much of the tech industry focuses on theoretical AI, Source.ag delivers applied intelligence that growers use every day. Since launching in 2020, its software has been deployed in more than 300 greenhouses across 2,500 hectares in 18 countries, operations that help supply tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers to roughly 40 million people.

Controlled-environment agriculture is highly efficient in managing scarce land and water, but its scalability has long been limited by human expertise. Source.ag addresses this by centralizing greenhouse data and digitizing agronomic knowledge, serving as an AI co-pilot that accurately forecasts yields and automates irrigation. The result is increased production, improved quality, and higher operational efficiency across the fresh-produce value chain.

The Series B reflects strong conviction in Source.ag’s approach: partnering closely with growers to scale climate-resilient food production through applied AI. With software now deployed across 2,500 hectares and powering production for millions, the company is expanding its platform and global footprint.

Participation from leading seed and grower partners underscores Source.ag’s role as critical infrastructure for the fresh-produce supply chain. By digitizing growing expertise and boosting productivity, forecasting accuracy, and crop quality, Source.ag is becoming the AI backbone of controlled-environment agriculture, enabling growers to meet rising global food demand sustainably.
