Baobab Ventures, empowering early-stage, deep-tech founders to reach momentum, led by Carles Reina, has launched a $15 million solo GP fund to back pre-seed and seed stage founders building startups across AI, robotics, and defence. The fund has already backed companies like Murphy, Theker, Altan, and Omnia.
The Fund is backed by institutional LPs Cendana Capital, Isomer Capital, RSJ Investments, Emergence Ventures, and Cyber Fund. Partners from Concept Ventures, Credo Ventures, as well as business angel and professional football player Mario Gotze, and deep tech investor Dr. Fatima Godall are also backing it.
Baobab Ventures, based in London and Barcelona, is a European fund with a global mandate, supporting early-stage technical founders who aim to scale internationally from day one. The fund emphasises rapid momentum as a key element of the startup journey, while Reina will assist founders with GTM, operations, product strategy, and hands-on support for customer pitches, contract negotiations, and critical hires. Half of Baobab’s investments will target Europe, with the remainder allocated to the US and other markets.
Reina said, “Building startups has changed dramatically in recent years. Sales cycles are faster, competition emerges within months, and AI has disrupted traditional outreach. Founders now need to move quickly while building sales and growth strategies suited for the AI era. That requires operators on the cap table with relevant frontline experience who can provide hands-on support. This AI-informed operator experience is a clear gap in Europe, and one Baobab is well-positioned to fill.”
