Anterior, the clinician-led artificial intelligence platform for health plans, led by Tahseen Omar, Abdel Mahmoud, and others, has announced a $40 million funding round, bringing total capital raised to $64 million. The oversubscribed round included continued participation from NEA and Sequoia Capital, alongside new investors FPV and Kinnevik.
Anterior enables health insurers to deploy AI directly into real clinical workflows, combining technology with embedded clinicians to improve accuracy, adoption, and measurable impact.
Since its $20M Series A in June 2024, Anterior has expanded deployments with major U.S. health plans, including Geisinger Health Plan, integrated with HealthEdge and its GuidingCare platform, now supports organizations covering 50M lives, and introduced a Forward Deployed Clinician model to speed adoption and reduce deployment risk.
Dr. Abdel Mahmoud, physician and former Google product leader and CEO of Anterior, said AI struggles in health plans not due to technology limits but poor implementation, adding the company built its approach around clinician-led deployment, investing as much in rollout as in the technology itself.
Anterior reports 99.24% clinical accuracy (validated by KLAS), with one enterprise deployment cutting review cycles by ~75% and boosting staff satisfaction above 90%, highlighting its implementation-led AI approach.
Valerie Limpus, COO & CTO at MedWatch, said initial skepticism gave way to large-scale adoption across hundreds of nurses, significantly boosting productivity and user satisfaction.
George Gjermano of WNS-HealthHelp said Anterior stands out for its hands-on collaboration, actively working with partners to solve problems rather than acting like a typical vendor.
Anterior added senior healthcare advisors to strengthen governance and expertise, including David Shulkin, Peter Long, and William Golden.
“Amid many AI investments lacking returns, Anterior demonstrates real RO’AI,” said Pegah Ebrahimi, expressing support for improving efficiency across healthcare.
The funding will expand Anterior deployments, add new clinical use cases and integrations, and accelerate its five-day average rollout model.
