U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will purchase more than 200 Extended Range Sentry Towers (XRST) from Anduril to expand autonomous situational awareness across a much larger portion of the Southwest Border.
The $363 million contract builds on more than seven years of collaboration between Anduril Industries and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, during which Anduril has delivered and supported hundreds of autonomous systems.
Scaling Autonomous Border Surveillance.
Border security operations require continuous monitoring across vast and often challenging environments. Anduril Industries develops autonomous surveillance systems designed to operate around the clock, helping reduce the burden on frontline personnel by automating detection and monitoring tasks.
The company's technology is already deployed at scale, with more than 350 Standard Range Sentry systems in operation. These systems have autonomously detected hundreds of thousands of border crossings, allowing agents from U.S. Customs and Border Protection to spend less time monitoring sensors and more time focused on law enforcement and operational response.
According to Anduril, the new contract further expands the use of autonomous systems to improve coverage, increase operational efficiency, and support border security missions at scale.
Expanding Long-Range Autonomous Surveillance.
Anduril Industries has continued to evolve its Sentry surveillance platform alongside the changing needs of U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Its latest system, the Extended Range Sentry Tower (XRST), is designed to detect, classify, and track activity at significantly greater distances than previous generations.
The 80-foot expeditionary tower integrates advanced sensors capable of monitoring objects at ranges exceeding five miles. Combined with Anduril's Standard Range Sentry systems, the XRST creates a layered surveillance network that provides persistent coverage across large and complex border environments.
Following successful acceptance testing in late 2024, Anduril expanded its engineering efforts to further enhance the long-range autonomous capabilities required for border security operations. The company says these systems have become a trusted operational tool, providing continuous situational awareness while helping personnel focus on higher-value mission activities.
