Odyssey Raises $310 Million to Accelerate World Simulation

Odyssey, an AI lab pioneering general world models, led by Oliver Cameron and Jeff Hawke, has announced its $310 million Series B at a $1.45 billion valuation, led by Natural Capital, with participation from Amazon, GV, AMD Ventures, EQT, IQT, and others. They join existing investors including Jeff Dean, Elad Gil, Qasar Younis, Kyle Vogt, Garry Tan, alongside researchers from OpenAI, DeepMind, MSL, Recursive, and Thinking Machines.


Building the Foundation for World Models.


More than a decade of work on autonomous driving helped lay the foundation for a broader vision: creating AI systems capable of understanding and predicting how the world works. Through the development of advanced driving technologies, the team gained firsthand experience with models that learned elements of physics, causality, dynamics, and human behavior from real-world interactions.


That insight led Oliver Cameron and Jeff Hawke to launch Odyssey in 2023. The company was founded on the belief that world models, AI systems capable of understanding and simulating the physical world, would emerge as a new category of foundation model with applications spanning robotics, science, healthcare, education, gaming, defense, and beyond.


Several years later, advances in world-model research are increasingly validating that vision, with capabilities expanding well beyond their origins in autonomous driving.


Advancing the Frontier of World Models.


Odyssey has continued to push the boundaries of world-model research through a series of breakthroughs focused on simulation, reasoning, and real-world understanding. Recent developments have improved the accuracy of physical world simulation, enabled real-time multimodal world models, introduced multi-agent interactions within shared environments, and demonstrated how world models can improve through active exploration.


These advances are helping establish world models as a new foundation for AI systems that can understand, predict, and simulate complex environments. At the same time, Odyssey is deepening collaborations with strategic partners, including Amazon Web Services, to scale research and optimize model performance on next-generation infrastructure.


The company believes the field is approaching an inflection point similar to the early breakthroughs that transformed large language models into foundational AI technology. While still in its early stages, world-model research is increasingly viewed as a potential cornerstone for future applications across robotics, science, healthcare, education, gaming, defense, and other industries where understanding and simulating the real world is critical.
