Nearfield Instruments, a semiconductor metrology equipment company developing and delivering ground-breaking process control metrology solutions for the worldwide advanced semiconductor I.C. manufacturing industry, led by Roland van Vliet and Hamed Sadeghian, has announced the successful closure of a $380 million Series D funding round led by new investor Fidelity Management & Research Company, along with Temasek, Walden Catalyst Ventures, Innovation Industries, M&G Investments, and Invest-NL. Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) participated in this round as a new investor. Other existing investors, TNO Ventures and ING, also contributed to this oversubscribed round, which represents the largest ever for deep-tech in the Netherlands.
The investment marks a major milestone in Nearfield’s growth as a semiconductor metrology and inspection company. The capital will be used to accelerate product development, expand global applications and support centers, increase manufacturing capacity, and strengthen research collaborations with leading semiconductor manufacturers.
As AI drives demand for more powerful and energy-efficient computing, advanced chip production requires increasingly precise process control. Nearfield’s metrology and inspection technologies provide the high-accuracy, high-throughput measurements needed to improve yields, optimize manufacturing processes, and support the production of next-generation semiconductors.
Nearfield’s technology supports some of the semiconductor industry’s most advanced manufacturing transitions, including High-NA EUV lithography, Gate-All-Around (GAA) and Complementary Field-Effect Transistor (CFET) architectures, and hybrid-bonded 3D integration. These capabilities are essential for enabling the performance, efficiency, scalability, and reliability required by next-generation AI computing systems.
The latest funding round reflects the growing importance of metrology and inspection in semiconductor manufacturing. With additional capital, Nearfield plans to accelerate innovation, expand its global footprint, and strengthen its ability to deliver advanced measurement solutions to leading chipmakers. As the semiconductor industry pushes toward increasingly complex devices and processes, the company aims to establish itself as a long-term global leader in metrology and inspection technology.
Investors see Nearfield as a key enabler of next-generation semiconductor manufacturing. As chipmakers advance toward smaller process nodes and increasingly complex 3D architectures, precise metrology and inspection technologies are becoming essential for maintaining process control, improving yields, and ensuring manufacturability at scale.
The company’s position at the intersection of AI-driven semiconductor demand and advanced chip architectures has strengthened confidence in its long-term growth potential. With the industry entering a new era of complexity, Nearfield is well positioned to address one of the most critical challenges in semiconductor production: delivering the measurement accuracy required to manufacture increasingly sophisticated devices.
