SuperCharger Ventures, the global ecosystem for EdTech startups led by Janos Barberis and the team, has announced the launch of Fund I. It will invest in EdTech and Future-of-Work companies worldwide, with a focus on pre-seed and seed-stage startups.
Initial investments in selected startups will be up to €250,000, with follow-on funding ranging from €500,000 to €1.5 million. The fund is backed by family offices and high-net-worth investors, with 90% of first-close commitments already secured. Additional participation remains open to institutional investors.
The fund will operate alongside SuperCharger Ventures’ accelerator program, providing founders with access to mentorship, investor networks, market-entry support and government-backed non-dilutive funding opportunities, including programs offered through Malta Enterprise.
Janos Barberis, Co-founder and CEO of SuperCharger Ventures, said:
“Three years ago, our Malta program received around 100 startup applications. Today, more than 1,000 startups apply per cohort seeking to expand into Europe through Malta. We began as an accelerator, and now we are becoming an investor as well. Adding capital to our existing founder support platform strengthens the SuperCharger proposition, helps founders pursue bigger ambitions and contributes to the growth of Malta’s startup ecosystem.”
The fund will primarily invest in the top 3–5 startups from each SuperCharger accelerator cohort, typically after founders complete the program. The structure is designed to create a clearer path from acceleration to fundraising, while giving external investors greater visibility into startup quality, market potential and founder readiness.
The fund was announced during the SuperCharger Summer Festa event, which brought together nearly 100 investors, including VC firms and angel investors representing more than €3 billion in assets under management. The milestone further strengthens Malta’s position as an emerging European startup hub. Bank of Valletta Fund Services, Malta’s leading fund administrator, will serve as the fund administrator.
Kenneth Farrugia, CEO of Bank of Valletta, said:
“Malta may be a small market, but it is agile, connected and well positioned as a gateway for innovation. At Bank of Valletta, we are focused not only on supporting today’s economy but also on helping shape the economy Malta is becoming. That requires openness to new ideas, new approaches and collaboration with startups challenging traditional models. Innovation is driven by partnerships, and initiatives like this create the connections needed to turn ideas into real opportunities.”
With the global EdTech market projected to reach $437.5 billion by 2033, SuperCharger Ventures Fund I aims to support the growing education technology and Future of Work ecosystem. The opportunity is driven by increasing demand for workforce transformation, with the World Economic Forum estimating that 59% of workers globally will require reskilling by 2030.
