Lucid Motors(Led by Interim CEO Marc Winterhoff), Nuro(Co-Founded by Jiajun Zhu and Dave Ferguson), and Uber(Led by CEO Dara Khosrowshahi) announced a partnership for an Autonomous Robotaxi Program created exclusively for the Uber ride-hailing platform.
Uber plans to launch a new robotaxi service in a major U.S. city next year, combining Lucid’s software-defined Gravity vehicle, Nuro’s Level 4 autonomous Nuro Driver™, and Uber’s fleet platform. Over six years, 20,000+ Lucid vehicles equipped with Nuro’s autonomy system will be deployed, operated by Uber or partners, and available exclusively through the Uber app. The first prototype is already being tested in Las Vegas, with Uber also committing hundreds of millions in investments in both Lucid and Nuro.
The upcoming robotaxi will combine Lucid Gravity’s long-range, advanced platform with Nuro’s Level 4 autonomous driving system, making it ideal for scalable deployment. Hardware integration will occur on Lucid’s assembly line, with Nuro’s AI-powered software installed when the vehicle is commissioned by Uber. With Uber’s global scale—34 million daily trips across 70 countries—the service is positioned to accelerate the adoption of self-driving technology. The 450-mile range reduces charging downtime, while Nuro’s AI system ensures adaptability and safety. Nuro will also lead comprehensive safety validation through simulation and real-world testing.
