How Open Cosmos is Accelerating Real-Time Intelligence and Connectivity from Space

Open Cosmos, the European leader delivering satellite infrastructure, led by Rafel Jorda Siquier, Jordi Barrera Ars, and Aleix Megias Homar, has raised €300 million in funding as governments and enterprises accelerate investment in secure, space-based systems. The round, led by European investors, includes participation from Lightrock, ETF Partners, Institut Català de Finances (ICF), Entrepreneurs First and two major international pension funds. Other participants include Convex Group, National Security Strategic Investment Fund (NSSIF), Phoenix Court (home of LocalGlobe and Latitude) and Claret Capital Partners.
The funding will expand Open Cosmos’ satellite manufacturing capabilities and accelerate intelligence and connectivity services through the expansion of ConnectedCosmos, OpenConstellation, and DataCosmos.
Strengthening Europe’s Sovereign Space Capability.
Open Cosmos has become one of Europe’s fastest-growing satellite manufacturers, delivering five consecutive years of profitable growth and a strong mission success rate for customers including governments, space agencies, and major energy and infrastructure companies. Its four factories across Europe can produce up to one satellite a day.
The company recently launched next-generation satellites for OpenConstellation, a shared satellite network designed to cut Earth observation intelligence delivery times from up to 48 hours to as little as 30 minutes. The constellation also supports onboard AI processing and inter-satellite communications for real-time intelligence services.
Open Cosmos has demonstrated a rapid execution model. Within two months of securing access to Liechtenstein’s Ka-band spectrum filings, it launched its first ConnectedCosmos satellites. With more than $370 million in signed customer contracts over the past three and a half years, the company is expanding interoperable, data-rich, and reliable sovereign space capabilities across Europe and other markets.
Scaling Europe’s Integrated Space Platform.
Space is increasingly becoming critical infrastructure for national sovereignty and strategic autonomy. Global space investment from venture capital reached $11.3 billion in the first half of 2026, surpassing the $10.1 billion invested across all of 2025. European governments are also investing in sovereign communications and Earth observation capabilities to reduce reliance on non-European infrastructure and strengthen security.
Open Cosmos has spent the past decade building an integrated space platform that combines satellite infrastructure, connectivity, and intelligence. OpenOrbit designs and operates satellites, OpenConstellation enables shared satellite infrastructure, ConnectedCosmos provides sovereign broadband and IoT connectivity, and DataCosmos turns imagery and sensor data into operational intelligence.
The platform can combine these capabilities in real time. For example, an OpenConstellation satellite could detect a forest fire using onboard AI, relay the alert through ConnectedCosmos to emergency teams, and task additional satellites or terrestrial IoT sensors for further verification. ConnectedCosmos can also provide resilient connectivity when terrestrial networks are unavailable.
The new funding will accelerate this platform by expanding ConnectedCosmos, OpenConstellation, and DataCosmos, while scaling engineering, manufacturing, and software teams across the UK, Spain, Portugal, and Greece, where Open Cosmos employs nearly 400 people.
Rafel Jorda Siquier, Founder and CEO of Open Cosmos, said: “Space infrastructure is becoming as critical as energy, digital networks and transport. Governments and enterprises increasingly require secure communications and operational data delivered through resilient systems. But infrastructure alone isn’t enough. The real value comes from the intelligence that relays what’s happening on Earth in real time and the global connectivity to deliver it.
“By bringing together satellites, secure communications and AI-powered data services, we’re creating a system that transforms information from orbit into something that governments and enterprises can act on. This investment allows us to accelerate that vision, satisfying the satellite manufacturing orders that governments and large companies are placing for our reliable and high-performance satellites and delivering the sovereign services the world needs.”
Space Minister Baroness Lloyd said: “This landmark investment represents a major vote of confidence in Open Cosmos and Britain’s growing space sector.
“Our new UK Space Strategy recognises the increasing importance of satellite communications in all our lives, from connectivity to defending our country, and companies like Open Cosmos are vital for advancing that infrastructure.
“Following previous UK government support, it is great to see the company continuing to grow, with investment that will help unlock high-skilled jobs and growth that will benefit people across the UK.”
Ashish (Ash) Puri, Partner at Lightrock, said: “Lightrock is delighted to be leading Open Cosmos' funding round and supporting this European leader as it enters its next stage of growth in the space economy. The work of Open Cosmos, and the wider space infrastructure sector, underpins global energy, communications, security, and sustainability efforts. Open Cosmos' stellar mission record, manufacturing capability, and scientific expertise position it to become a global leader in this critically important sector, and we look forward to supporting the company on this journey.”
Patrick Sheehan, Managing Partner at ETF Partners, said: “The conditions for building world-leading space companies have now converged in Europe. The leadership team at Open Cosmos has demonstrated the calibre of ambition required to convert this expertise into substantial commercial results and has achieved this at remarkable pace. Open Cosmos is already an exceptional business, and we believe it has the potential to become one of Europe’s defining infrastructure companies.”
Saul Klein, co-founder and chair of Phoenix Court, said: "Rafel and the team have spent a decade turning world-class science and engineering into real industrial capability, building a profitable space company that can manufacture satellites at scale and deliver critical sovereign infrastructure. When we give ambitious founders the time and capital to build, Europe can challenge the best in the world, and the proof is right here in Open Cosmos."
