How Callosum is Redefining How Humanity Computes

Callosum, building the infrastructure where heterogeneous chips & intelligence co-evolve to solve the world's hardest problem, led by Jascha Achterberg, Danyal Akarca, and the team, has announced a $100M seed round to redefine how humanity computes for AI’s next chapter. The round is led by Atomico with significant participation from Plural, DCVC, and the UK Sovereign AI Fund, alongside other world-class investors and angels.
AI is entering a “Cambrian explosion” of models and chips, each optimized for different tasks. Callosum is building a platform to combine this heterogeneous compute globally, aiming to unlock greater AI capability at lower cost.
The company argues that the key question of the next decade will shift from which model is best to which combination of models and hardware can solve a problem within specific cost and speed constraints. This approach, called heterogeneous intelligence, treats AI as a collection of specialized capabilities rather than a single system.
Alongside the funding, Callosum announced three major developments:
Global compute partnerships: Callosum is partnering with Cerebras, Rebellions, infrastructure providers, and OEMs to combine specialized compute technologies. Its flagship Cerebras partnership will deliver low-latency, heterogeneous multi-agent AI at scale.
Programmable heterogeneity: The company is developing technology that breaks workloads into individual tasks and assigns each to the model and chip best suited to the job, balancing cost, energy, and speed.
Tailored Inference: Callosum is bringing its heterogeneous compute platform into production across areas including cybersecurity and finance, aiming to improve AI performance and cost efficiency through task-specific inference.
Callosum argues that heterogeneous compute can also strengthen AI sovereignty by allowing nations to run advanced AI across whatever silicon is available, reducing dependence on a single supplier. The company is the first investment of the UK Sovereign AI Fund and is included in the UK’s £1.1 billion AI hardware plan.
The company says the infrastructure choices being made today will shape how AI is developed and deployed globally.
UK Minister for Artificial Intelligence Kanishka Narayan said AI development depends on the chips powering it, with demand expected to continue growing. He emphasized that future AI competitiveness will depend not only on access to compute but also on using available chips efficiently.
Cerebras CEO Andrew Feldman said the partnership with Callosum will bring ultra-low-latency inference to applications where it can have the greatest impact, enabling AI systems that were previously impractical to deploy.
Rebellions CEO Sunghyun Park said the partnership with Callosum allows its chips to work alongside other specialized hardware, with different components handling different parts of an AI workload. He said this approach enables broader deployment across environments and geographies.
