Breakout Ventures, partnering with exceptional founders scaling scientific innovation to build the breakout companies powering our future, led by Managing Partners Lindy Fishburne and Julia Moore, has announced the close of its $114M Fund III. Given Breakout’s ongoing success, the new fund received strong support from returning investors, including Cortes Capital, S-Cubed Capital, The Kraft Group, Pinegrove Venture Partners, and an affiliate of LH Capital, and is pleased to add new limited partners, including JIMCO, the global investment arm of the Jameel family, and Korea Omega Investment Corporation. The firm has delivered strong results across its funds, already returning capital to Fund I investors. Notable investments include Cytovale and Twelve, among others.

“The past decade has focused on backing early teams using technology to harness scientific discovery,” said Lindy Fishburne, Managing Partner. “As AI unlocks vast biological and chemical data, accelerating progress is reshaping cost curves. The new fund will continue supporting scientific founders toward commercialization.”

Fund II Momentum

Fund II, announced in 2021, has generated strong momentum. Surf Bio was acquired by Halozyme Therapeutics for up to $400M, delivering a significant return. Noetik is developing foundation models for human biology and secured a $50M upfront partnership with GlaxoSmithKline. Phantom Neuro is advancing neural interfaces for real-time prosthetic control, while ZymoChem is producing fossil-free polymers with partners including Lululemon.

Ron Alfa, MD, PhD, Co-Founder and CEO at Noetik, added, “Breakout's team brings the conviction and clarity you want around the table. Insights from their experience sharpened how we position both our technology and our business model for pharma and AI leaders alike. Tapping into their curated network accelerated our momentum in real time.”

Breakout Ventures is actively deploying capital from Fund III, with early Seed investments in founders applying AI to complex scientific challenges. Recent investments include Reach Industries, developing a visual intelligence layer for regulated environments using agentic computer vision; a stealth company focused on improving commercial distribution of scientific innovations; and a University of Chicago spinout advancing small-molecule discovery through computational chemical analysis.

“The founders backed are translating scientific innovation into scalable companies that can shape the future,” said Julia Moore, Managing Partner at Breakout Ventures. “Achieving that requires more than capital, it demands conviction, expertise, and networks that help turn breakthrough science into real businesses. Fund III represents the firm’s most ambitious chapter yet.”

The firm also announced the promotion of Nima Ronaghi, PhD, to Partner, recognizing his contributions to performance and the continued development of the investment platform.
