Anduril Unveils the Steelfin Family of Surface-to-Air Interceptor Missiles

Modern air and missile defense faces a growing range of threats, from low-cost drones to hypersonic missiles, while existing interceptors remain expensive, inflexible, and costly to adapt. This creates an unfavorable cost-exchange and strains critical defensive stockpiles.
Anduril developed Steelfin to address these challenges with adaptable, scalable defense capabilities designed to evolve alongside emerging threats.
Steelfin is a family of configurable, mass-producible surface-to-air interceptors designed to counter cruise, ballistic, and hypersonic missiles. Its common two-stage architecture enables mission-specific performance while reusing components and manufacturing processes across the interceptor family, reducing costs and supporting scalable production.
Reconfigure, Don’t Redesign.
Steelfin’s modular, two-stage architecture enables mission-specific configurations without costly, years-long redesigns. A configurable booster supports different range, performance, and launch requirements, while a common terminal interceptor architecture allows components such as seekers and mission systems to be adapted through modular interfaces.
This approach creates a family of interceptors suited to diverse air and missile defense missions, from point defense to ballistic missile defense, with the goal of delivering required capabilities at a fraction of the cost of benchmark interceptors.
Producible by Design.
Steelfin’s shared architecture enables multiple interceptor variants to use the same production lines, tooling, technicians, and facilities, supporting rapid production scaling. Anduril plans to manufacture several thousand units annually in the near term, with capacity designed to flex with demand.
Open interfaces also enable commercial components and multiple suppliers, broadening the supply base, reducing supply chain risks, and supporting large-scale production.
Ready to Field.
Steelfin is designed to integrate with existing land- and sea-based launch systems, including the M903A2, Mk 41 VLS, and Typhon, as well as established fire control platforms such as AEGIS and IBCS. Compatibility with fielded infrastructure and battle management systems is intended to streamline deployment, accelerate fielding, and strengthen existing defense capabilities.
A New Approach to Interceptors.
Anduril has invested in Steelfin for years alongside customers, completing ballistic testing and planning flight tests for its variants next year.
Designed to address an increasingly diverse threat landscape, Steelfin combines configurable designs, scalable production, and compatibility with existing defense infrastructure to deliver cost-effective interceptor options for different missions.
