Volantis, a scalable solution to the memory bottleneck, enabling more than an order-of-magnitude increase in capacity and bandwidth, led by Tapa Ghosh and Roy Meade, has raised a Series A, led by Lachy Groom and Abstract, totalling $97M in funds raised to date, including from Sam Altman, Jeff Dean, Dylan Patel, John Doerr & others.

Volantis is developing an optical interconnect technology designed to enable models with over 10 trillion parameters to run at speeds of up to 10,000 tokens per second per user. The goal is to enable real-time AI inference, larger context windows, and coding agents that complete tasks in seconds rather than minutes.

Its optical fabric aims to overcome the trade-off between memory capacity and bandwidth, increasing both by more than 10x while lowering inference costs through memory pooling.

The technology uses custom integrated micro-VCSELs instead of external lasers and replaces traditional optical fiber to achieve higher bandwidth density.

The team brings experience from NVIDIA, AMD, Broadcom, and Ayar Labs, having developed pioneering products in advanced packaging, silicon photonics, and optical interconnects.
