Temporal, revolutionizing backend software engineering, led by Samar Abbas and Maxim Fateev, has raised a $300M Series D at a $5B post-money valuation, led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sapphire Ventures, Sequoia Capital, Index, Tiger, GIC, Madrona, and Amplify. Raghu Raghuram joins as a board observer.

AI and other long-running processes expose the limits of traditional backends. Durable Execution preserves state, recovers from failures, and removes the need for custom retries, solving these challenges at the foundation.

Usage reflects growing trust: revenue up >380% YoY, weekly active usage +350%, installs +500% (20M/month), and 9.1 trillion lifetime actions processed, including 1.86 trillion for AI-native companies, with spikes of 150,000+ actions/sec handled seamlessly.

Temporal was created to eliminate repeated distributed systems challenges. As AI adds complexity, this becomes even more critical. The platform manages fault tolerance and state, letting teams focus on business logic — from agentic AI to financial pipelines.

Companies including OpenAI, ADP, Yum! Brands, and Block rely on Temporal in production for orchestrating AI systems and mission-critical processes. “Durable Execution is a core requirement for modern AI systems… as AI systems become more complex and long-running, durability is as important as performance,” says OpenAI’s VP of App Infrastructure.

Yum! Brands’ CTO Matt McDole adds, “Temporal’s SDKs let devs focus on innovation rather than undifferentiated infrastructure problems, balancing speed and reliability in agentic applications.”

This funding accelerates ongoing work: enhancing AI-native features, expanding the platform, improving SDK developer experiences, and deepening partnerships with OpenAI, Vercel, Pydantic, and Braintrust.

Demand for Durable Execution is outpacing expectations, driving growth in both platform usage and hiring across the company to support developers building on Temporal.
