Saltz, a fast-growing chef-marketplace connecting professional kitchens with over 100 trusted suppliers across 20 countries, led by Tomas Slimas, Reinis Strodahs, Andrius Slimas, and the team, has raised €20 million in Series A funding from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Inovo, Lifeline Ventures, and Change Ventures, with participation from Mantas Mikuckas (founder of Vinted), Miki Kuusi (founder of Wolt), several Shopify executives, and other strategic angels.

New funding will accelerate expansion across Europe and strengthen investment in cross-border food trade technology, with plans to hire more than 100 people as the company works toward a global food marketplace.

From e-commerce to food distribution

Saltz was founded to address the fragmented, offline nature of food distribution, where restaurants face opaque pricing and manual ordering, and suppliers struggle to reach customers efficiently.

Drawing on experience building B2B marketplaces at Oberlo and Shopify, the team created a transparent platform connecting chefs directly with suppliers across Europe. Saltz aims to modernize food sourcing and expand globally as a central hub for professional kitchens and suppliers.

Growth plans and investor support

Saltz’s funding round drew top investors, highlighting the opportunity to digitize the large, fragmented food distribution sector. Lifeline Ventures’ Petteri Koponen noted that the team’s marketplace and logistics expertise positions Saltz to drive meaningful change.

The company will use the funding to scale operations, expand across Europe, diversify its supplier network, and grow teams in engineering, product, sales, and operations. The investment enables faster development, improved experiences for chefs and suppliers, and higher standards for transparency and efficiency in the food supply industry.
