Orbem, the Munich-based Deep tech company turning Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) into a powerful, AI-powered tool to reveal hidden insights in food and biology, led by Pedro Gomez, Miguel Molina, Maria Laparidou, and others, announced the successful closing of a €55.5 million Series B financing round led by Innovation Industries and joined by Supernova Invest, with significant follow-on participation from existing investors General Catalyst, 83North, The Venture Collective, Possible Ventures, and several angel investors.

Orbem has developed a scalable MRI-based platform for non-invasive, industrial analysis of biological materials, enabling the creation of one of the industry’s most comprehensive biological datasets. Already profitable and a leading provider of in-ovo sexing across five European countries, the company is expanding into the United States, launching new poultry solutions, entering the fruit and vegetable market, and advancing applications in human healthcare.

Orbem has delivered proven impact in the poultry industry through AI-powered MRI solutions built on deep process knowledge. Its Genus Focus product determines egg sex in under one second, providing an animal-friendly alternative to chick culling, with over 170 million eggs scanned to date.

Building on this traction, Genus Scale enables early fertilization checks before incubation, reducing wasted capacity, creating new revenue streams, and helping cut food waste.

The Series B funding supports Orbem’s next phase of growth, including expansion into the US market, continued scaling of its poultry platform, and entry into the fruit and vegetable sector using non-destructive MRI to assess internal quality and reduce food waste.

Insights gained from large-scale biological scanning are also advancing applications in healthcare, forming the basis for AI models built on one of the world’s most extensive biological datasets.

Orbem is the first company to demonstrate sub-second, fully automated MRI at an industrial scale, enabling rapid, non-invasive insights across food and biological applications. The new funding accelerates US expansion and broader adoption among food producers and healthcare providers, supported by a scalable platform and a rapidly growing proprietary biological dataset.

Investors highlighted Orbem’s ability to make complex MRI and AI technology accessible at scale, its impact across multiple industries, and its role in addressing challenges such as animal welfare, food waste, and sustainable food systems through European deep tech innovation.
