Companion.energy, the platform for power pioneers navigating the energy transition, led by Thomas Vyncke and Jonas Verstraeten, has announced the close of a €7.8 million seed round led by Realyze Ventures (Germany) and Pi Labs (United Kingdom), with participation from Asterion Ventures (France) and existing investors.
Rapid Growth Driven by Enterprise Energy Management.
Over the past year, the company increased both revenue and its customer base tenfold, surpassing €1 million in annual recurring revenue. It now serves more than 30 enterprise customers across Belgium, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, including TotalEnergies, KPN, Port of Antwerp-Bruges, Interparking, and Proximus Group.
The platform manages more than 2 TWh of annual energy consumption and generation, representing roughly €500 million in energy-related spending and revenues. It currently supports over 200 MW of distributed energy assets, including solar, wind, battery storage, electric boilers, and EV charging infrastructure.
Using autonomous, real-time optimization, the platform helps organizations maximize the value of their energy assets and reduce energy costs by an estimated 10–30%.
Building the Operating System for Enterprise Energy.
According to Thomas Vyncke, the rise of renewable energy, electrification, and distributed energy assets is making electricity markets far more volatile and complex. As enterprises deploy batteries, solar systems, EV charging networks, and electrified industrial equipment, traditional approaches based on spreadsheets and static procurement processes are becoming increasingly inadequate.
Jonas Verstraeten said Companion was founded on the belief that energy management is becoming a core operational function for industrial enterprises. The company aims to provide software that continuously monitors and optimizes energy operations, helping organizations transform energy from a cost and risk center into a source of competitive advantage. The new funding will support broader deployment of the platform across enterprise customers.
Connecting Energy Operations Into A Single Optimization Platform.
Companion.energy brings together energy contracts, operational systems, and distributed energy assets into a unified platform that continuously forecasts demand, models market exposure, and automates energy decisions in real time.
By optimizing procurement, dynamically controlling energy assets, and improving the economics of electrification, the platform helps enterprises manage increasingly complex energy operations more efficiently.
The new funding will be used to enhance the platform’s multi-asset and multi-market optimization capabilities while accelerating commercial expansion across Europe, with an initial focus on Germany and Spain.
Investors See A Shift Toward Autonomous Energy Operations.
According to Marnix Roes, Companion.energy has built a platform capable of managing complex enterprise energy environments across multiple sites and markets. He highlighted Germany as a particularly large opportunity as companies seek more sophisticated ways to optimize electrification, energy flexibility, and market exposure.
Dhruv Gupta noted that enterprise energy management is evolving from periodic reporting and manual decision-making toward continuous, real-time optimization. He believes Companion’s platform stands out by moving beyond recommendations to directly executing energy decisions, enabling enterprises to automate increasingly complex energy operations at scale.
