Globally Recognized Impact Investors Back Leyden Labs’ Mission to Transform Protection Against Respiratory Viruses with €40 Million Investment

Leyden Labs, freeing humanity from the burden of respiratory viruses, led by Koenraad Wiedhaup, Ronald Brus, and the team, has announced a €40 million investment from the European Innovation Council (EIC) Fund, Invest-NL, Gates Foundation, ClavystBio, and others. The Company welcomes Ben Verwaayen as a new Supervisory Board member. Nominated by EIC Fund and Invest-NL, Mr. Verwaayen brings decades of international leadership experience, having served in senior executive and board roles across some of the world’s leading technology companies.


Investor Support.


The financing brings together a consortium of impact-focused investors from Europe, the United States, and Asia to support the development of novel therapies against influenza and other respiratory viruses. The investment will help advance technologies aimed at improving global access to respiratory disease treatments for vulnerable populations during both seasonal outbreaks and future pandemics.

Leyden Labs Founder and CEO Koenraad Wiedhaup said the financing reflects strong confidence in the company's scientific approach, team, and mission to transform protection against respiratory viruses. The support from international investors will help accelerate clinical development and advance the company's goal of expanding global access to its respiratory disease therapies.


EIC STEP Support.


Leyden Labs received funding through the European Innovation Council's Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP), an initiative that supports technologies strengthening Europe's competitiveness in biotechnology and other strategic sectors. The EIC Fund said the investment reflects confidence in Leyden Labs' approach to preventing respiratory viruses and its potential to advance global public health while reinforcing Europe's leadership in biotechnology innovation.


Invest-NL Support.


Invest-NL, the Netherlands' national promotional institution, also participated in the latest funding round, reaffirming its support for Leyden Labs' mission. The organization invests in innovative businesses that contribute to societal progress, economic resilience, and technological advancement, with the latest investment aimed at supporting the company's continued growth and development.


Gates Foundation Support.


Funding from the Gates Foundation will support efforts to develop and implement strategies that improve access to Leyden Labs’ products in low- and middle-income countries. The initiative focuses on ensuring that future respiratory virus prevention solutions can reach vulnerable populations globally through more equitable distribution and access pathways.
