Gixel, a German-based company developing next-gen optical displays for AI and AR glasses, led by Miro Taphanel, Ding Luo, and Felix Nienstaedt, announced its seed fund raise of €5 Million led by Oculus VR co-founder Brendan Iribe; former Chief Futurist at 20th Century Fox and Paramount, and founding team member at RED Digital Cinema, Ted Schilowitz; FlixBus founders Jochen Engert, Daniel Kraus, and André Schwämmlein; Germany’s Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovation (SPRIND); and early-stage VC firm LEA Partners.
Gixel has been advancing AR display development since 2021. The company has quietly built a world-class team of 15 international specialists in display physics, nano-optics, system engineering, and high-precision manufacturing—supported by SPRIND, a key early investor and long-term shareholder.
Gixel’s proprietary display technology removes a key barrier to AI and AR eyewear by delivering ultra-light, power-efficient, high-fidelity optical see-through displays. Designed for industrial-scale manufacturing, the platform supports curved lenses, variable focal planes, and scalable fields of view—enabling sleek, low-power glasses with immersive visual capabilities.
Gixel is currently developing a fully functional prototype and preparing developer kits for pilot partnerships. A Series A round is planned for next year to scale manufacturing and meet growing industry demand.
