Firecrawl, powering AI agents with clean web data, led by Caleb Peffer, Eric Ciarla, and Nicolas Silberstein Camara, has raised a $75M Series B led by Smash Capital, with participation by Altos Ventures, Nexus Venture Partners, Y Combinator, Freestyle, and Offline Ventures. The company has also introduced Alexandria, which brings official data providers, custom connectors, and Firecrawl’s own indexes together with the live web, so your AI agent has one way to find a source, see what it holds, and pull from it.

Named after the ancient Library of Alexandria, Alexandria aims to make knowledge accessible to AI agents without requiring information to be physically or manually centralized.

Much of the world’s expertise and valuable data remains difficult for AI systems to access, from undocumented human knowledge to proprietary datasets. Alexandria connects AI agents with these sources while creating a model that compensates contributors when their knowledge is used.

The company already has agreements with data providers, including Wikimedia Enterprise. The new funding will expand its network of contributors, improve search, and broaden the sources accessible to AI agents.

The long-term goal is to build a continuously expanding knowledge layer for AI, combining existing human knowledge with discoveries made by humans and AI agents.

From Firecrawl to Broader AI Data Access.

Firecrawl emerged from Mendable, an AI chat product for documentation, where a fundamental challenge became clear: extracting clean, reliable information from the web was often the hardest part of building AI products.

Firecrawl was built to handle crawling, rendering, parsing, and cleanup from a single URL. The platform now serves more than 1.5 million developers.

As AI agents become more capable, their information needs extend beyond websites to financial data, filings, and other specialized sources. Each source brings its own APIs, pricing, and formats, creating a growing integration burden for developers.

Firecrawl is expanding its coverage and search capabilities to help AI agents access a broader range of information and produce more complete answers.

Before You Order the Hoodies.

Building an AI customer-support startup starts with an important question: who else is already working on the same problem?

Finding the answer is harder than searching for a few familiar names. Competitive research requires identifying relevant startups, their customers, product positioning, and potential differentiation. Much of that information remains scattered across directories and websites designed for human browsing.

Alexandria enables AI agents to query startup directories directly, analyze companies in batches, compare products, and retrieve underlying records, helping distinguish genuine competitors from companies with superficial similarities.

The same agent can then identify potential customers and use people enrichment to find relevant decision-makers, turning competitive research into targeted sales prospecting without switching between disconnected data sources.

The result is a faster path from understanding the market to identifying potential customers, before significant time and resources are committed.

More Places to Look.

Alexandria gives AI agents a common way to discover, understand, and retrieve information from multiple sources through the Firecrawl API.

Sources include the live web, official data providers, Firecrawl indexes, custom connectors, and specialized workflows. Its indexes cover tens of millions of scientific papers, developer sources such as documentation and GitHub activity, and government laws, regulations, and ordinances.

Across 845 benchmark tasks, AI agents using Alexandria achieved 21% higher answer quality than agents using built-in web tools, based on blind AI evaluation using the same models and prompts.

Making Knowledge Worth Sharing.

Firecrawl already pays official data providers through direct agreements, including Wikimedia Enterprise, with millions of Wikipedia data requests processed each month.

The new funding will support a self-service system enabling individuals, content creators, and organizations to earn from the knowledge they make available to AI agents. The model could eventually extend to useful discoveries generated by AI agents themselves.

What Firecrawl Is Building Next.

Firecrawl will continue investing in search and Alexandria, expanding access to the live web, deeper indexes, retrieval systems, and first-party data sources.

Alexandria is designed to complement web search and scraping, giving AI agents broader and more structured access to source material for company research, scientific analysis, and technical research.
