Skyfora Raises €6.5 Million to Turn Telecom Networks into Real-Time Weather Sensors for AI Forecasting

Skyfora, building hyper-local weather intelligence, led by Fredrik Borgström, Kim Kaisti, Jostein Mælan, Marja Mattila, and Christoffer von Schantz, has raised €6.5 million. The round includes equity participation from Eviny Ventures, Ugly Duckling VenturesLumo Labs, and the European Innovation Council (EIC) Fund, alongside non-dilutive funding from Business Finland.


Rising Demand For Weather Intelligence.


The funding comes as demand for high-resolution weather data continues to grow, fueled by advances in AI-powered forecasting, increasing climate volatility, and the need for businesses to make more weather-informed operational decisions.


Organizations across industries are increasingly relying on precise weather intelligence to improve planning, manage risk, and build more resilient operations in the face of changing environmental conditions.


Scaling Weather Intelligence.


The funding will support the commercial expansion of Skyfora's weather intelligence platform, data products, and partnerships across telecom, forecasting, and weather-sensitive industries.


By turning existing cell towers into real-time atmospheric sensors through a software-only solution, Skyfora delivers high-resolution weather data for AI forecasting models while helping telecom operators unlock new value from their existing infrastructure.


Building The Data Layer For Next-Generation Weather Forecasting.


Fredrik Borgström said Skyfora is transforming existing mobile networks into a global sensing infrastructure for weather forecasting and climate intelligence.


With the new funding, the company plans to scale its telecom-powered atmospheric monitoring network, providing the high-density, real-time weather data needed by AI forecasting platforms and weather-sensitive industries as climate volatility increases.


Measuring The Atmosphere At Global Scale.


Skyfora uses GNSS receivers already embedded in telecom networks, and its own StreamGNSS hardware where needed, to measure atmospheric humidity in real time. By analyzing GNSS signal delays, the company converts existing telecom infrastructure into a high-frequency weather observation network that feeds AI-powered forecasting models.


The approach addresses a major challenge in weather forecasting: much of the atmosphere remains underobserved, limiting the effectiveness of modern AI weather models. By leveraging existing infrastructure rather than deploying new sensors, Skyfora can scale atmospheric data collection more efficiently and cost-effectively.


The company already operates deployments across multiple countries, working with telecom operators, meteorological agencies, forecasting providers, and weather-sensitive industries to expand real-time atmospheric sensing worldwide.


Eviny Joins As A Strategic Investor.


Eviny Ventures, the investment arm of Eviny, joined the funding round as a strategic investor, highlighting the growing importance of high-resolution weather intelligence for energy operations.


For energy producers, more accurate short-term weather forecasts can improve power generation planning, grid management, energy trading, and operational efficiency. Skyfora's atmospheric data platform is expected to help optimize decisions across hydropower, wind, and solar assets by providing more granular and frequent weather insights.


Lars Jacob Sjaastad said Skyfora addresses a real operational challenge for energy companies by turning weather data into actionable intelligence that can support day-to-day energy system decisions.


Backing Skyfora's Commercial Scale-Up.


Ugly Duckling Ventures has reinforced its support for Skyfora by participating in the company's latest funding round as it moves into a new phase of commercial expansion.


According to Andreas Green Rasmussen, early concerns centered on proving the technical feasibility of deploying Skyfora's technology at scale. With much of that technical risk now addressed, the focus has shifted to commercializing the company's atmospheric data platform and expanding its global reach.


The firm believes Skyfora is well positioned to bring a new generation of weather intelligence to industries that depend on accurate, high-resolution atmospheric data.


Continued Backing From Lumo Labs.


Lumo Labs participated in the round, continuing its support for Skyfora as the company scales its atmospheric data platform.


Linn-Cecilie Linnemann highlighted the growing importance of high-quality data for AI-driven climate solutions, noting that Skyfora is building a differentiated position through its proprietary atmospheric datasets. She emphasized the team's execution and long-term vision, and believes the company is creating a valuable and defensible asset by developing one of the world's largest real-time GNSS-based weather data networks.
