Cytix, the security decision layer for software change led by Ben Armstrong and Thomas Ballin, has raised $7M, led by Northern Gritstone, with participation from existing investors, Auriga Cyber Ventures and NPIF II – PXN Equity Finance, which is managed by PXN Ventures as part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund II (NPIF II).
The Challenge.
Software change is becoming a growing security risk as AI-assisted development, agentic workflows, and continuous delivery outpace existing security models.
While 62% of security leaders say security risk is shifting from a latent to an immediate problem, only 38% strongly believe their organisations are prepared for the growing volume of AI-generated code entering their environments.
Cytix and Northern Gritstone.
Cytix selected Northern Gritstone for its focus on deeptech companies in Northern England with global ambitions. Both companies see software change as an increasingly significant organisational risk and believe software developers need security solutions that can scale with the pace of modern development.
Existing investors have also increased their commitments, reflecting growing confidence in Cytix’s thesis and progress.
Software Change Risk Platform.
The funding will accelerate the rollout of Cytix’s change risk platform, designed to help organisations assess whether software changes introduce security risk and determine the appropriate response.
The platform continuously monitors software changes and updates, analyses and validates associated risks, and provides an audit trail for regulatory reporting.
AI-assisted development is accelerating software change to machine speed, while existing security tools largely focus on vulnerabilities rather than the broader risk created by each change. Cytix’s platform is designed to address that gap.
The platform sits between the software development lifecycle, where changes occur, and risk, security, and compliance functions, where those changes must be assessed and evidenced.
Every software change passes through this control point, which identifies the change and associated business risk, determines the appropriate security response, validates the risk, and provides evidence of how it was managed.
Plans for the Future.
The Series A funding will support Cytix’s expansion into enterprise and regulated sectors where change governance is a regulatory requirement.
Customers can access the platform directly through Cytix or via managed service partnerships with NCC Group and KPMG.
The funding also supports Cytix’s goal of helping enterprises manage the security risks created by increasingly rapid AI-assisted software development.
Cytix identified early that software change would become a critical cybersecurity challenge and has since built a product gaining trust among enterprise customers and strategic partners. The company’s continued execution and growing market traction are positioning it for its next phase of growth.
